Metro regular qualifies for First Tee Open

Congratulations to Mia Kabasakalis of Alameda. She qualified to play in the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach this weekend. This is the event where talented young golfers tee it up alongside Champions Tour stars such as Hale Irwin, Peter Jacobsen and Tom Kite.


"Each Labor Day weekend, The Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach showcases the talent and character of young people who participate at The First Tee facilities worldwide. An official Champions Tour event, the tournament pairs one junior with a Champions Tour player and two amateurs. Seventy-eight junior spots are awarded--30 from three regional qualifiers, 40 from a golf and life skills selection event in July, and eight exemptions distributed by The Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the host organization. The September 1-3, 2006 tournament will be televised on The Golf Channel and NBC for the third straight year." Source: thefirsttee.org


Mia is a student of Metro's Director of Instruction Rich Marik; a Metropolitan Links Club member, and a volunteer with the Metropolitan Junior Golf Program.

Other Bay Area junior qualifiers inlcude Christina Hirano, Jennifer Hirano, Diane Kwon, Joanne Lee, Joi Pentin, Joseph Bramlett, Adam Ichikawa, Gregor Main, Casey Payawal, Eric Pitcaithley, and Martin Trainer.
